GRIMM’S is a family owned company which develops, manufactures and sells wooden toys worldwide. The headquarters staff in Hochdorf, Germany does all the design work, the surface finish and treatment, assembly, quality control, packing and shipping. Woodworking is outsourced to a few independent shops in Europe only. For many products, assembly and packaging is done successfully in cooperation with sheltered workshops in Germany.
Design Our intent is to design toys, whose simple and reduced design together with beautiful colouring and inviting surface feel are well suited for all ages – products that are played with over and over again.
Why wood? We love wood because it is a natural product and always carries individual marks that end up in our products and make each of them unique. We mainly use alder, lime, beech and maple wood only from Europe and from sustainable resources. Wood provides many different sensory experiences. It has grain or texture, is sometimes dark and the next time bright, it is hard or it is soft. It is rough or smooth, warm or cold. It smells great. It sounds different, is heavy or light. Bacteria cannot grow on wood. If something breaks, it can be glued. Wood fits into the natural cycle without any problems, which is not true at all for plastic or metal. Most our products are sanded by hand, which gives them a different look and feel versus machined products.
Quality We are certified in accordance with the ISO 9001:2008 quality standard. All colours and oils we use are certified in accordance with the EN 71 and CPSIA/ASTM 963 standards.
